KLPac
The visit to KL Performing Arts Centre was a real an eye-opener.
The girls were dressed to kill and most of them would leave most boys (and some men) drooling. After the strict instruction of being in school by 6.30, there were still 12 ppl who were late. They turned up in dribs and drabs, most of them apologetic and there was one who was so late, she assumed the bus had left without her and yet was irresponsible enough not to call to inform us. So, being kind and patient, we waited until she did arrive, only to be greeted with a slow gait and smile. Notice the absence of a very important word.
We were finally on our way 45 minutes later than planned and we were very worried that we would be late. Our confident driver, drove as fast as he could and presto we were in Sentul by 8pm. Not too bad considering Friday evening traffic. Anyway he drove through some seedy and If-ey lanes and stopped, told me to get off and check. Like a fool, I walked around the area only to find most shoplots closed and an Indian Cinema next to the bus. He had got us to the wrong place!
'Bukan mau tengok wayang ke? Boss saya kata sini', he says.
So I replied, 'Tengok drama - orang berlakon, bukan wayang'.
Aiyo, mana eh? was all I got in return.
So off we went again and got into Sentul proper, on the way to Genting. Obviously on the wrong route, he went in search of a U-turn but never found it. There were so many Indians around, but trust a man NOT to ask for directions. Thankfully, Thirshalar could give us a description and with the help of Annette our correspondence from the Australian Embassy, we realised we had driven passed KLPac earlier. SO, Mutu got us back onto the Mahameru Bypass and we ended up going past Lake Gardens (which is miles away from Sentul) and had us all worried sick that we'd be locked out of the play completely.
Mag shouted out 8 minutes to go before doors close and panic rippled through the bus. We were back in Sentul by then but on the wrong side of the road. Found the entrance to Sentul West but still had to make a U-turn. Of course a bus couldn't just simply make one, illegally and we had to drive a distance looking for a proper exit. Another call from Annette to inform us that the Director was holding the play back another 10 mins for our benefit. Hidup Sri Aman! We finally get into Sentul West and Mutu crawled at snail's speed. We practically jumped off and ran helter skelter - these pretty little things on 4 inch heels.
Talk about embarassing, we entered Pentas 2 in semi-darkness only to be ushered through the middle aisle where eveyone, and I mean everyone stared at us. What a grand entrance. The minute we put our tooshies down, the Director made his opening speech and away we were swept for the rest of the evening.
The performance? FANTASTIC! Covering four Shakespeare plays in all. the excerpts were so well blended together that if you didn't know his works, you wouldn't notice the changes and be a little lost. There were some other cluster schools around ( they had to wear uniforms of sorts) and most of them were lost and unappreciative of the hard work put into the play. The cast was mostly wonderful, though some had to carry their lines with them but we totally understand cos the language is different and Shakespeare being Shakespeare seems to enjoy long monologues and soliloquys. We had our own piece of Sri Aman in the play, namely Inessa Irdayanty, a former Sri Amanian who was fantastic. She played Hermia in Midsummer Night's Dream, the little rebellious daughter who wanted to marry her true love,Lysander instead of Demetrius, one chosen by Daddy dearest as well as the role of Ophelia in Hamlet. There was a lot of hugging and kissing so I know my girls enjoyed it while other schools probably cringed.
It was over too quickly but we got to meet the cast and Annette's boss. I managed to catch up with Inessa and I congratulated her on a job tremendously well done. We took lots of pictures but I can't show any yet as the girls were the ones with the cameras.
Anyway, the bus was late picking us up and we only got back to school about 11.15, right after Mutu wrecked a car along the way. The girls dispersed so quickly and efficiently that in less than 5 mins, the road was cleared of everything and everyone, including me.
I hope they enjoyed it and hopefully this won't be our last trip out.
